What is Arestin?

Arestin is an FDA-approved minocycline antibiotic used to alleviate infection and treat advanced periodontal disease. It comes in mini capsules, which are delivered into the gums after scaling and root planing remove tartar from the gum pockets. By delivering the antibiotic directly to the surface of the gums, Arestin can effectively target the bacterial infection without affecting the entire body.

What Are the Benefits of Arestin?

With proper application, Arestin can deliver noticeable periodontal improvements and support oral health. Arestin has the following benefits over similar antibiotic treatments:

  • Bioresorbable, i.e., naturally absorbs into living tissue
  • Direct delivery method targets specific areas of the gums without spreading to other parts of the body
  • No local anesthesia is required
  • Extremely effective at preventing bacteria from recolonizing the gum pockets

Let’s Get Started

What’s the
first step?

Please schedule a consultation with Dr. Weiselberg at her Fort Lee, New Jersey office. Dr. Weiselberg will administer a complete periodontal exam to evaluate your oral hygiene, review your medical history and any sensitivity to minocycline or tetracyclines, and determine the stage of your periodontal disease if it is presently afflicting your teeth and gums. From there, Dr. Weiselberg will develop a customized treatment plan to address your periodontal disease. If a root and planing procedure is recommended, this treatment may include an Arestin prescription. If this treatment plan is to your satisfaction, our patient coordinator will schedule your next appointment for a root and planning procedure.

What to Expect From an Arestin Treatment

The most common treatment to address periodontal disease is a root and planing procedure. This procedure involves removing bacteria and tartar buildup to preserve the health of the gum tissue. The gum pockets will be cleaned and treated with Arestin as necessary to help alleviate the infection.

The Arestin is administered in powder form via a unit dose cartridge with a deformable tip placed into the periodontal pocket. The cartridge evenly dispenses the Arestin powder into the gum pocket. The Arestin will remain active for at least 14 days, preventing bacteria from recolonizing and allowing the gums to heal from infection.

Depending on the extent of your periodontal disease, you may require multiple treatments to address any periodontal damage properly. Following your procedure, Dr. Weiselberg will provide you with instructions on how to maintain your oral hygiene. A prescription mouthwash may be incorporated into daily cleaning routines.

How Much Does Arestin Cost in North Jersey?

The cost of Arestin in Fort Lee and the Northern New Jersey area will vary depending on the number of treatments necessary to administer Arestin and the dosage required. North Jersey Dental Group will be able to provide you with a cost estimate for your customized treatment plan at the time of your consultation.
